Success and some questions...

All in all it was a successful first stocking! There were no great dramas - some postal calculator issues (which were my fault as I'd entered weights incorrectly) and an admin email address issue (please send emails to pam@ ikiscloth.com.au)... but I was pleased with how it all went! Nearly all packages have now been sent out. I'd love some more action shots for the gallery and reviews *hint hint*. There are still some pocket nappies left... This gorgeous paisley medium hippy hippy snap is one that I thought would be snapped up. It's a shame it's not a large or I'd keep it for my daughter! Pockets seem to be a little out of vogue, with AI2's being more popular, however pockets are all I use. They make nappy changes easier and messy poo clean ups a breeze.

I am also working on the details for a new, budget friendly product line - and would love your input! I want to know if you would prefer stay dry topped (suedecloth) or bamboo velour topped boosters on a OSFM all in two system. Remeber the ikis cloth facebook fanpage competition? Here is the custom order that Alisha came up with. A medium fattycakes with crazy dot minky outer, lime microchamois inner pocket.

I'll use this opportunity to showcase the ikis cloth pocket opening style. Ikis cloth pockets use a modifed welt sytyle opening. It is wide enough to get your hand and insert in comfortably, but not gapey. It is high enough in the back that it won't be right on the 'poo zone', and the modified welt style protects the opening from any poo finding its way inside the pocket. It has an inner flap that is sewn down to keep the insert tucked inside the pocket.

There are two types of pocket inserts available. The insert that comes standard with pockets is a 2 layer bamboo trifold, creating six thirsty layers when folded. The contoured insert is available as an upgrade, and is for those who don't like folding trifolds, want a trimmer nappy and don't mind a little extra drying time. The contour consists of two flaps with three layers of bamboo fleece in each, triple stitched together at the top. Each flap is quilted for trimness and to help it keep its shape.

The ikis mini booster is available as an added extra, and is a three layer contour. This clever booster snaps onto the pocket and All in Two inserts, to prevent it moving around and make changes easier. It is contoured to provide more absorbency where you need it - towards the front for boys, or twist it around for girls or back sleeping babies.

Five medium long Hippy Hippy Snaps (this is not a size I will be stocking, but can make for custom orders).

The butterfly poly PUL is a pocket nappy, and the others are AI2's. My poor 22 month old DD has such a boring stash - I had to rescue the elephant poly PUL nappy from her, as she had a huge tantrum wanting to be changed into it after I'd finished it! I've added one into the stock sewing just for her <3

Please excuse the sloppy positioning of the nappies - Hippy Hippy Snap AI2's are hard to position nicely for photographs, but they are an awesome fit (and not wonky like they look in the pictures, I swear!).

Look at my poor neglected blog! By the looks of it, you'd think that nothing has been happening here at ikis cloth! That is far from the truth!

Amongst taking a short break over the silly season, I have been kept busy with custom orders, and sewing newborn Fattycakes for my SIL and friends. I have also been busy starting production of stock for the ikis cloth webstore's grand opening. It's all steam ahead for the opening in the first week of February. It's so fun picking different colour combinations! Hopefully there is something there to please everyone.

Tear drop shaped breast pads! These nursing pads are contoured, to help them stay in place, and make them almost invisible under your clothing! Now the leaky breastfeeding mumma can wear form fitting tops again, without the tell-tale breast pad 'halo'. The teardrop shape also means they are more absorbent!

I am going to give away one free set of breast pads to the person who comes up with the best (either most entertaining or most catchy) name for these breast pads. Comment away! Winner will be chosen in two weeks.

Well, sort of! This is part 1 of a cloth pad order. These are post partum pads made with the Kiki pads pattern.

These will catch any night time flow or post partum flow - they are very generous in the front and back coverage, but with a nice contoured shape for comfort. They measure 32cm in length!

This cute little set is a gift for my lovely friend Nicky. Those that know me, know that I am addicted to sewing patterns - well, napppy patterns to be exact- and I get bored of sewing the same things! For this reason I didn't make her a NB Hippy Hippy Snap or Fattycakes (although I have some ideas in the works!) This little newborn nappy was made from the Chloe Toes Pattern. I really love it for the smaller sizes - it's so fast to sew, has really clean lines and a fantastic fit - a little belly scoop that is lightly elasticised, higher in the back (great for preventing nb poo blowouts) and the front snaps are angled to give a great fit at the legs at any snap setting.

This was the last of my blue owl fabric :( I just love it.. although I do have some scraps I'll be giving to Nicky so she can make a gorgeous small nicnap to match the singlet!

I am so sad that I couldn't get a decent photo of these, they look lovely in person! My poor, poor camera fell victim to my two year old and sweet and sour sauce :( I have asked santa for a new camera (and sewing machine) for Christmas, so we'll see if I've been naughty or nice!

A cute medium Hippy Hippy Snap Ai2. This one is a second due to slightly misaligned wing snaps (if you look at the picture you can see) and slightly misshapen front panel (which is not really that noticeable and not noticeable when the nappy is on). Ikis Cloth seconds are identifiable by not having a size tag.

This has a yellow microfleece inner, and the booster is overlocked with pink variegated wooly nylon. $25 (normally $31).

Have I mentioned how much I love these little babuskas?

These owls just make me smile. The fabric is seamed at the crotch so that the owls are right way up on the front and back.

Two velour inner hippy hippy snaps. They sit a little funny off due to the minky rolling in (to prevent wicking with the velour inners), but they fit fabulously. The demin minky looks awesome with the silver snaps!

Teeny tiny and the giant!

A teeny tiny prem xxs little starter (this is just a giveaway, I cannot sell from this pattern), and because I am a bit anal about things matching, and since the rest of the nappies match, I had to make up a large hippy hippy snap in the same colour scheme! It makes the large look like a giant, but really, it is pretty trim!

These, along with the other 10 nappies have gone out to Kobi today. Hopefully the little bub will still fit into the nappy. Otherwise, it will work well as a doll nappy!

The first is a medium Hippy Hippy Snap All in Two with purple velour inner and brown dot minky outer. The flash has made the snaps look a different colour - they match the velour inner IRL. This colour scheme reminds me of the cadbury brand chocolate! The second is a medium Fattycakes All in Two, with rose minky outer, and apple green microfleece inner. I think I am going to make another one of these, but with a cherry red outer, and it will be like a toffee apple! Yes, I have just started a new diet and have sweets on the mind, lol!

A cute desinger print fitted night hippy hippy snap. Aren't the babushkas adorable? This has a cotton outer print, full body inner of bamboo fleece with a sewn in (almost full body sized) soaker of one layer, inner of microfleece. The snap in booster has an extra long contour of 3 layers bamboo fleece, with a top contour of 2 layers bamboo topped in microfleece. With the extra long booster folded into the middle or front this nappy has 13 layers of bamboo fleece in the wetzone.

The ittle lilac number is a day Hippy Hippy Snap AI2... plain minky on the outside and spotty on the inside :D

Again, please excuse my dodgy photography! My camera is very particular about the light that it will take good photos in.. and apparently I always take photos at the wrong time of day!

Introducing 'ikis cloth'!

I don't have plans to open and stock a store yet... until uni slows down, I will only be open for a limited amount of customs as time permits.

From the first time I sewed up a Hippy Hippy Snap, I just fell in love with the fit. It is nice and trim through the crotch, but still wide enough to stuff as a pocket nappy, and has enough bum coverage to contain everything that baby can ahem, 'throw' at it! It is great for chunky thighed, skinny waited babies (the shape of my girls), but is reported to be a great fit for petite babies too! It also has a decent rise... I find many of the current trim style nappies are too low in the rise, resulting in unflattering 'plumber's crack' which, let's face it, is not a good look on anyone. Even that gorgeous baby of yours!

How do you get your hands on an ikis cloth HHS?

At the moment I am only selling via custom orders. Email me at ikiscloth @tpg.com.au (remove space between the @ symbol).

These are fully customisable. You choose size, outer (minky with hidden PUL, plain poly PUL or cotton print with partially hidden PUL), inner (microfleece or velour), and style (AI2, AIO, Pocket or fitted). You can even choose the colour snaps and absorbency levels!

Prices are as follows:

Budget Fleece pocket (2 layer domestic fleece) $15
Plain PUL pocket $16
Polyester Print PUL pocket $22
Minky pocket $19-$22 (depending on type of minky)

Upgrade to AI2 or AIO +$9.

Only one snap in to make laundry easier. The snap in consists of a double petal contour soaker, with the bottom layer extra long, so it can be folded over, and then flipped over again to the middle for girls, or the front for boys, giving absorbency where it is needed, but leaving the nappy trim!

Pockets

Ikis Cloth pocket nappies have the pocket at the back of the nappy, with both the inner and outer elasticised to prevent the stuffer from poking out. The pocket opening is nice and wide for ease of stuffing. I generally only make the medium and large sizes as pockets, as the smaller sizes are too hard to stuff. It can be done on request (but would require the crotch to be widened somewhat).

Pocket nappies allow for total adjustment of absorbency, with no fussing with snapping things in. Once stuffed, they make great daycare nappies.. there is no way for the nappy to get 'messed' up, just a smooth, stay dry microfleece inner. They also make cleaning soiled nappies a breeze, as there are no flaps or gaps for any poo to get stuck in!

Pockets are sold without stuffers. Stuffers can be purchased from me if needed, at a price of $7 per bamboo trifold. Trifolds are a rectangle of two layers of heavyweight bamboo fleece, that are folded into three (or for $8 a larger quadefold can be purchased), totalling 6 layers of absorbency. They are very quick drying.
